Connected Kerb has installed over 10,000 charge points to date and commissioned a further 1,614 sockets in 2025. Its smart charging technology shifted more than 280 MWh of electricity away from peak demand periods, supporting grid stability and avoiding over 7,300 tCO₂e.

In 2025, Aviva Investors’ Sustainable Investing team focused engagement on emissions reporting and decarbonisation, reflecting the growing importance of ESG credentials in public tenders. Following 2 meetings, by year-end, Connected Kerb was finalising a net zero target and decarbonisation strategy aligned with SBTi requirements. Data completeness continues to improve, supported by emissions workshops from Aviva Investors, strengthening the company’s ability to evidence ESG performance and support further network expansion.

Investment Thesis

Transportation is one of the UK’s biggest climate challenges, producing about 24% of national greenhouse gas emissions, with cars responsible for about 60% of this sector’s emissions.¹ To support net zero, the UK plans to ban sales of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 and install at least 300,000 public EV charge points by then; as of January 2026, over 116,000 were installed.²

To support this target, the Fund committed over £50m to Connected Kerb to deliver 40,000 on-street chargers. This investment aims to revolutionise access to EV charging for millions of drivers without off-street parking, and is backed by the UK Government’s LEVI Fund, which supports local authorities in funding on-street EV charging projects. Connected Kerb is now one of the UK’s largest EV charging networks and was rated the Best On-Street Charging Network in 2025 by ZapMap.

Investment Thesis

Fibre networks play a critical role in the climate transition by offering significantly greater energy efficiency than legacy copper and mobile technologies, using less power per unit of data transmitted. Their high-capacity, low-latency performance enables the digitalisation of energy, industry and transport systems, supporting emissions-reducing solutions such as smart grid management, remote operations and advanced monitoring.

The Fund has committed about £140m to three UK fibre providers: ITS Technology Group, Truespeed Fibre and County Broadband. Truespeed and County (merged in 2025) focus on underserved rural and market-town communities, while ITS delivers nationwide B2B connectivity, supporting the expansion of resilient, low-carbon digital infrastructure. In 2025, 14,406 new fibre customers were connected to these networks.

Truespeed & County Broadband

Following initial £80m investments in 2022, Aviva Investors supported the 2025 merger of Truespeed and County Broadband to consolidate a fragmented market, enhance scale and unlock operational synergies.

Aviva Investors has engaged with both companies to strengthen ESG governance and establish carbon emissions monitoring and reporting. Both have since progressed internal governance frameworks and have begun building emissions reporting capability. Each business continues to deliver social value: Truespeed has installed over 150 free broadband connections for community hubs, while County supports local connectivity initiatives, improving access in underserved regions. Together, these developments support integration of the combined platform and enhance its ability to scale network deployment efficiently.

ITS Technology Group

In 2022, the Fund invested £55m in ITS Technology Group, a UK B2B provider of full-fibre networks. The company is scaling rapidly and was ranked among Britain’s fastest-growing tech businesses in the Sunday Times 100 Tech 2026.¹

Aviva Investors engages regularly with ITS to support the development of its ESG strategy, with a focus on strengthening social value alongside growth. In 2025, ITS installed 533 km of fibre, bringing its total network to 6,239 km, while supporting 27 new local job starts and delivering 30 work placement days. It has expanded access to digital infrastructure, providing free access to full fibre broadband connection for selected Community Hubs. This approach supports ITS in scaling its network while maintaining strong social value outcomes and stakeholder alignment.
